1. What Do You Need a Laptop For? - Before going into the features and what you need to watch out for when buying a laptop you need to figure out what you'll use your laptop for. If you're going to be using your laptop for emails and surfing than you don't need a monster on the other hand if you plan to be doing a lot of video editing and running a lot of resource hungry programs you need a better laptop.

2. Laptop Sizes - So you ask what sizes are there, I've sorted laptops into three main categories after their size screen. 12.1'', 14.1 and 15'' screens. The larger the size the heavier the laptop but it also means that usually a lot more features are available as it got a lot more space to put the hardware in.

3. Laptop Processor - A processor is the logic circuitry that responds to and processes the basic instructions that drive a computer. The term processor has generally replaced the term CPU (central processing unit). The processor in a personal computer or that is embedded in small devices is often called a microprocessor.

4. Laptop Memory - Ram is the memory that your applications use when running. Next to the CPU itself, RAM is the most important factor in computer performance. The more demanding the programs you have the more RAM it's better to get. If you're using your computer for email and surfing than you don't need as much as if you're working with Photoshop, one of the more damanding programs.

5. Laptop Hard Drive - HD is basically storage on your computer, the more storage you have more things you can store. Depending on what you do with your computers, the bigger HD you'll need. If you install a lot of applications and use a lot of space than it can also have an impact on laptop performance.

6. Laptop Screens - Laptop screens are very thin as they use liquid crystals to display everything you see on the screen. The laptops screen still remains one of the most expensive things a laptop consist of and as their prices go down so do the laptop prices.

7. Laptop Batteries - Laptop battery is a very important factor to take into account when deciding for what laptop to buy. If you're on the move a lot you know how annoying and inconvient it can get when you run out of batteries. All laptops use some type of rechargeable battery (lithium, nickel-cadmium, nickel-metal hydride).
